On The Charts: The Michael Jackson Takeover | MUSIC NEWS
While the Black Eyed Peas and Eminem remained at the top of the charts, perhaps unsurprisingly is the recent surge of Michael Jackson albums dominating the popular music charts in the wake of his untimely passing.
Nine out the top 10 releases on the Pop Catalog Albums charts are Jackson-related titles, including "Number Ones" taking the top spot, "Thriller" at No. 3, "Off The Wall" at No. 4, "Bad" at No. 6 and "Dangerous" at No. 7. Collectively, Jackson’s solo albums have sold a combined 422,000 copies this week, with 57 percent of those sales being digital.
Over at the top 200 album charts, The Black Eyed Peas’ "The E.N.D." passed the Gold plateau with 88,000 copies sold, while Eminem’s "Relapse" continued its march toward double-platinum status with 47,000 copies sold. Ginuwine’s "A Man’s Thoughts," the singer’s first studio release in four years, entered the charts with 37,000 copies sold. Beyonce’s "I Am… Sasha Fierce" landed at the No. 27 slot, eight higher than her "Above & Beyonce" compilation album.
